Yes you're right..this is not a sequel for Persona 4. Atlus confirmed that a port of Persona 4 for Playstation Vita is called Persona 4: The Golden. The news is reported by weekly's Famitsu Magazine.
This new version of Persona 4 bring some new features. An additional character named Mary, more voiceovers, new opening, new songs from the anime version. More importantly, Persona 4: The Golden will also utilize the Vita’s online capabilities. You can ask for help if you are in danger when exploring dungeon.
Persona 4: The Golden will be release in Spring 2012
